Laying floating floor

The floating laying is fast and easy to realize, therefore accessible to any person likely to tinker. When using the floating mode, unlike the nailed or the glued mode, the boards or panels are not secured with the base. Floorboards are only put together and tied up. You will find below advise for laying the wood flooring with floating mode, with or without glue.

Support preparation

Suitable substrate are: Concrete, plywood, tiles, thin carpet, synthetic surface. supports :
 Concrete
 Plywood
aold floor: tiles, thin carpet, synthetic surface

Tools for laying:

A saw with blades allowing the cut of laminates (jigsaw, circular saw, handsaw)
A square and a setsquare
A hammer or a mallet
Wooden or plastic wedges (5 to 10 mm width)
 A wooden tapping block

Laying underlay

Before laying, it is important to check the flatness and to make sure the floor is clean. A screed is necessary if the floor has too irregularities or roughness. The underlay allows a sound and thermal insulation. Iso dB is a 2-in-1 system allowing both immediate fixing of the floor on the screed and a sound and thermal insulation.

Laying wood flooring boards
More than half of the floating wood flooring have a clipping system and are layed without glue. The first board must be layed with the tongue side to the wall, with a 5 to 10 mm space dedicated to the expansion joint. The skirting board is supposed to fill the space. For the glued boards, apply a vinyl glue on the upper part of the groove.
Then, the first and the second are slotted together. Use the setsquare and the mallet to slot these boards together and the next entire boards in the whole room. Do not forget to put the wooden blocks to keep space between the wall and boards.
After having layed the first row, adapt the lenght of the last board by cutting on the other way around.
Before continuing with the second row, check carefully the linearity of the whole laying. It is all about avoiding curves along the lenght.
